National Writing Project

Welcome from the Executive Director

Sharon Washington

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I look forward to meeting you in San Antonio for the 31st National Writing Project Annual Meeting! This will be my first annual meeting as executive director, and I am delighted to have this face-to-face opportunity to learn from our network of accomplished and knowledgeable writing project site directors and teacher-leaders.

As always, our meeting offers a rich selection of site development workshops on Thursday and Friday, as well as a strand of sessions led by NWP teachers at the NCTE Annual Convention on Saturday. I hope to meet as many of you as I can at workshops, the general session, and of course the Thursday evening reception hosted by NWP's special-focus networks and the Friday evening NWP Social.

The multicultural city of San Antonio is a wonderful setting for our largest gathering of the year, with close to 1,000 writing project colleagues coming together from all parts of the country to learn from each other and to celebrate another year of accomplishments. Our annual gathering embodies the essence of the writing project's success: through mutual support and sharing of ideas and knowledge, members of our professional community pursue excellence as writers, scholars, and practitioners, passing their learning and their successes on to their students.

I am proud and honored to be a part of this dynamic network, and I look forward to celebrating the year's accomplishments with you in San Antonio. I am grateful for this new opportunity to experience how powerfully our writing and learning connect us.

Sincerely,
Sharon Washington Signature
