Site Bulletins
NWP communicates information to site directors and site leaders through a system of electronic "site bulletins" that are sent regularly at the beginning and middle of each month via email.

BUDGET SYSTEM UPDATE 末
Your 2009-2010 site budget, including core funds and minigrant requests, must be submitted through NWP's online budget system for the first time this year. Requested budget worksheets are now available online. Complete one worksheet for your core site budget and one worksheet for each minigrant request. (Submit minigrant application narratives separately.) See details in the CFA Instructions, budget system Help section, or Special-Focus Networks Grants Web page. DEADLINE: JANUARY 8.

CONTINUED FUNDING APPLICATION DUE JANUARY 8 末
The deadline for the 2009-2010 Continued Funding Application is Thursday, January 8, less than six weeks away. Please consider your university's holiday break when planning to get the required signatures. Each site must mail a complete application with original signatures plus four copies to the NWP Berkeley office. Each site also must submit electronic copies of selected parts of the CFA via the NWP website during the submission period of January 2-8. DEADLINE: JANUARY 8.

APPLY NOW FOR SPECIAL-FOCUS NETWORK MINIGRANTS 末
NWP's special-focus networks (English Language Learners, Rural Sites, Teacher Inquiry Communities, Technology Liaisons, and Urban Sites) offer minigrants to strengthen site work in areas that support the networks' missions. Funds support projects that help sites build leadership capacity, develop or extend inservice and continuity programs, and network with other sites to support student learning and writing. Site directors must enter the budget request for all minigrant applications in the online budget system this year. DEADLINE: JANUARY 8.

SIGN UP FOR NWP SPECIAL-FOCUS NETWORKS 末
Sites are invited to join the English Language Learners, Rural Sites, Teacher Inquiry Communities, or Urban Sites networks. Membership is required to be eligible for a 2009-2010 minigrant. Membership in the Technology Liaison Network is automatically granted to every site with a Technology Liaison. Be sure your tech liaison is registered on the TLN listserv.

SPRING MEETING REGISTRATION OPENS TODAY, DECEMBER 1 末
Register online now for the NWP Spring Meeting in Washington, DC, April 2-3. This is your chance to educate Congress about the great work you do. Thursday visits to Congress are followed on Friday by a keynote from Jacqueline Jones Royster and two sessions of roundtables. Registration is required. DEADLINE: MARCH 13.

PARTICIPATE IN TEACHERS TEACHING TEACHERS WEBCAST 末
Join teachers across the globe on December 3, for a special Teachers Teaching Teachers webcast sponsored by the NWP Technology Initiative. As a follow-up to an Annual Meeting session titled "Reading the Research: Media Education and Literacy in the 21st Century," this online event is co-hosted by the New York City Writing Project and the Technology Liaisons Network. It will feature Joe Bellino from the Maryland Writing Project and Karen McComas from the Marshall University Writing Project, as well as special guests. Conversation will focus on a white paper from the New Media Literacies Project at MIT, Confronting the Challenges of Participatory Culture: Media Education for the 21st Century.

NWP's Rural Sites Network and conference host Third Coast Writing Project invite you to Open Spaces to Small Cities: The Landscape of Rural Education, March 13-14, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for two days of exciting events, workshops, and more. Keynote speaker Karen Vocke is author of Where Do I Go from Here?, a book that offers ideas for creating learning environments that value inclusion and diversity with a focus on migrant students. Pre-conference events include a day-long workshop sponsored by the New-Teacher Initiative, a digital storytelling mini-institute, a school visit, a workshop with Karen Vocke and colleagues, and a writing marathon. Applications are now available for Professional Writing Retreats A and B, to be held in Southern Arizona, July 16-19, 2009. The retreats, which will run concurrently this year, give teachers a chance to write about the profession of teaching, literacy and learning, their own practice, policy and school reform, and more.
