National Writing Project

How to Obtain an Application

Individuals at colleges and universities preparing to apply to establish a National Writing Project site should begin with a formal letter on university letterhead requesting the Potential Sites Packet and Application. The packet contains information about the model, funding requirements, application instructions, funding cycles, and deadlines.

To receive a Potential Sites Packet and Application, please send a letter of intent to apply on university letterhead to:

Executive Director
National Writing Project
University of California
2105 Bancroft Way, #1042
Berkeley, CA 94720-1042

The letter of intent should describe:

  • the intended college or academic department interested in hosting a National Writing Project site, as well as any interested faculty
  • the intended service area for the site, as well as any collaborating schools districts
  • any relationship between existing interests and initiatives at the applicant institution and the interest in starting a site.

Letters of intent are reviewed to determine the relationship of the proposed site and service area to existing sites of the National Writing Project. Please visit our map of sites to look for or contact sites in your area.
